One of my favorite Japanese nostalgic (it's a Japanese car, they aren't classics, they're nostalgics ) cars is the the second-generation Toyota Mark II. The Mark II is the sportier, more stylish, more luxurious sister car to the Corona. Out of all the second-generation Mark IIs, the most desirable is easily the GSS, like the one featured here.

Why the GSS? The most obvious reason is the engine. The GSS came equipped with the 18R-G, a 2 liter version of the unstoppable R engine that found a home in USDM Celicas and Toyota pickups all the way through the 80s with a Yamaha-designed twin-cam 8-valve head. It is, like the 2T-G, 4AG-E, 3S-G(T)E and the double live gonzo 1LR-GUE V10 in the LFA, the same as all Toyota-Yamaha collaborations: it is powerful (145 horsepower out of a 2-liter 8 valve 4-pot in the mid 70s is pretty damn impressive) and it sounds REALLY FUCKING GOOD. Like, goddamn. Like, holy shit are you sure Yamaha makes something other than musical instruments? Here's a driveby from a second-generation Celica with the same engine:

I'll give you a minute to find an old gym sock so you can clean yourself up. And then I'll remind you of that gurgle when they take their foot off to shift and give you time to clean up again.

As for the other reasons why this car is one you absolutely have to own, there is the sport-tuned suspension (from an era where Toyota was arguably the best Japanese manufacturer of driver's cars) and that totally badass coupe body. I mean, look at it:

It says "Toyopet" on it and still, you'd dragon the hell out of it.

The one featured here, for the bargain price of $13,050, is a 1975 model with 67,000 kms on the clock. It also features Watanabe (real Watanabes, mind you, not Watanabe-style) wheels:

Also, a modern Sony head unit and, if the giant letters on the rear shelf are to believed Alpine speakers (perfect for pumpin' new shit by NWA).

The interior is also pretty damn clean for a car of its age:

I can just smell the vinyl looking at that. And so can you. I know you can. Because you're awesome.

Here's a link to buy it, so you can suffer like I currently am, being unable to currently buy it and all:

I want to become an importer/broker of cars exactly like this.

If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to spend the money on setting up a dealership in the New Haven area to serve as an importer of JDM awesomeness. It's near a major port and it's geographically close to a whole bunch of moneyed car people. I'm sure it would do well.
